It was a mellow day of rest here at Area 51 after such activity on the Fourth of July. things started a wee bit early as the most critical task of the day was taking Ms. Bella to her doctor’s appointment first thing in the morning. After some outdoor leg stretches, all of the dogs piled into the car for the field trip to Alameda. The excitement quickly wore off for Bella and Dex as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. Lola’s shivers also set in immediately as her deep-seated disdain for veterinarians’ offices is exceed only by her uncanny sixth sense for knowing she’s at one, even when it’s a location she’s never seen before. Grady, however, was clueless and all too excited to accompany his sometimes girlfriend. Alas, no visitors were permitted, due to COVID.
The visit was brief, with Bella returning not more than five minutes later. She had a prescription that required filling from a previous appointment and so, we went to the pharmacy to fill it. After a much-longer-than-desired discussion with two pharmacists and the vet over the phone, the affairs were in order and it was requested that we return in 30 minutes. Since the kitchen staff had been unsure whether Bella had to fast before her appointment, breakfast had been brought along, so we made a pit stop at Bella and Dexter’s home to both feed the pups and set up drip irrigation for their tomato planters (it being well known how much dogs like tomatoes). The chauffeur made some measurements and headed off to the hardware store once the dogs had finished their food and could be trusted alone.
Upon his return to Bay Street, the chauffeur received an unexpected call from a friendly neighbor who had received a visit from Grady! The perimeter was inspected and no breach was found. It is possible that despite caution being applied, Grady used his guile, speed and stealth to sneak out behind this writer while the gate was momentarily ajar, but he would normally then be all too eager to jump in the car. Anyhow, it’s suggested that the homeowner inspect the security as well. Once the drip system was successfully installed, we piled back into the car to head back to Alamo.
We returned to the pharmacy on the way… not 30 minutes later, but after around an hour. After waiting in line for a while, the woman behind the counter informed the chauffeur that there was no record of the prescription in the system. She repeatedly tried to find it and maintaining both his patience and composure, the chauffeur suggested that the head pharmacist, with whom he’d earlier spoken, be brought into the discussion. Thankfully, that gentleman recalled the conversation from so many minutes earlier, despite the fact that they‘d not begun to fill anything. We were assured a five minute wait, which turned into more like 30. In any case, note is made to the name on the prescription… even after so much careful reconfirmation when the information was entered. The pharmacist was asked to change this post facto.
Upon returning home, the caretaker needed to take a little care of himself and headed out for a workout at a local movement studio. Although he asked whether they welcomed dogs to their classes, he was informed that it was only the “downward” ones that were permitted (Please hold your laughs).
The rest of the day was spent by the pool and lazing in the backyard. It was difficult to get a photo, but Dex enjoyed some time cooling his legs off on the first step of the pool and Stretch hung out for a long time, singing to reggae music. The writer is unaware of how much outdoor time is appropriate, especially in the heat, so he was cautious about over exposure and intermittently gave stretch long breaks in his cage (video here). Some guests visited in the afternoon and we enjoyed some time by the fire as the sun set.
As soon as dusk turned to night, and the guests had left, we began to prepare for bed and all fell quickly to sleep by about 9:45pm.
Health Information: Dexter weighed in at 20 pounds. No issues with any of their poop. No medications seemed to be required, other than the new prescription for Bella of Ofloxacin, which was administered.
