Day Two

After such a busy day on Friday, everyone slept pretty soundly this morning and in adhering to the strict instructions from their mom, the visiting pups were encouraged to stay in bed until 7:30AM. In fact, they didn't start stirring until just about 8:00AM. When we did get up, all dogs went straight outside and took care of all of their business before enjoying their breakfasts. After that, we headed straight out for a walk on the Iron Horse Trail to Alamo Plaza to do some shopping. Walking four dogs was definitely a challenge for mind and body (video here) and left this writer thinking that a weaving loom could certainly be replaced by this pack of pups.

The dogs made an exciting stop at the pet store, where we purchased treats and teeth cleaning supplies and encountered many other excitable canines while we patiently waited for the clerk to mind-numbingly reset her cash register over and over again for about 15 minutes. Luckily Bella suggested that we simply use cash, which was a very efficient solution to a problem that the clerk could not seemingly arrive at on her own accord.

In order to break up the walk a bit and to give the chaperone a chance to rest his arms, a pitstop was made at Peet's where the dogs all charmed the other patrons... especially these women, one of whom is moving to Spain and the other hailed from Johannesburg. They were very enamored with the pack and had many interesting stories to share with our ever attentive pets.

The heat was a bit upon us at this point, so we took the walk home very slowly and everyone was beyond worn out by the time we arrived back at Area 51. The only suitable course of action was therefore a nap in front of the TV... no human nor beast lasted more than five minutes, even considering the engaging humor of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

When everyone woke back up, it was time for some exploration in the backyard... especially for Stretch, who sang his way all around the yard and was especially excited about the number of other birds who decided to swoop in during the tour. Dexter and Bella circled the entire perimeter in a search for a breach, but after the careful pre-preparation and review of the Facilities Team, no such weaknesses were found.

Dexter became a little restless and started some shenanigans with both Bella and Grady, so he went on another field trip while the others got a little rest. This time, Dexter ventured to Oakland's Temescal District, where he received a great deal of attention from the plentiful hipsters in attendance. As dusk approached, there was live jazz being performed on Telegraph Avenue, as well as some illegal fireworks in the distance.

Upon returning home, Dexter led the pack on a nighttime exploration of the backyard before collapsing into a snore-laden slumber. The night ended with a duet between the resident busker and Mr. Stretch.

Health Information: Dexter weighed in at 20 pounds. No issues with any of their poop. No medications seemed to be required.
